A member of a Peace Committee militia was gunned down by armed assailants in the district of Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lal Wazir (@lalwazir19) reported on X.
The incident occurred on Friday, 17 April, when armed gunmen attacked and shot dead the victim — Noor Adam Bettani, a member of a pro-government Peace Committee (Aman Committee) militia — in the district of Lakki Marwat. Majlis-e-Askari Karavan, a group aligned with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur (HGB) faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the killing.
Pakistani Taliban militants routinely carry out terrorist attacks targeting members of the many Peace Committee militias, many of whose members were former Taliban militants themselves who surrendered to the government. These attacks are carried out especially frequently in parts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and North and South Waziristan, which have been especially affected by the recent large increase in terrorist attacks in recent years.
