9 TTP militants, 1 Police personnel killed during exchange of fire in Hangu

At least 9 TTP militants were killed while a Police head constable also lost his life during an exchange of fire between security forces personnel and TTP militants in Hangu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, Dawn reports.

The exchange of fire erupted during a terrorist attack carried out by TTP militants on the Sarki Pyala Police Post in the Chamba Gul area of Hangu District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The personnel of Hangu Police, led by District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Habib Khan, were joined by personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and security forces in promptly responding with retaliatory fire to the terrorist attack.

During the clash, at least 9 TTP militants were killed with 2 bodies of the militants recovered by security forces personnel, while the rest were taken away by their accomplices, officials said. However, Police head constable Haji Abdul Masood was killed in a quadcopter drone attack by the terrorists during the engagement, while another constable, Mohammad Sajid, was injured during the fighting.

Later, funeral prayers were offered for the martyred policeman, attended by the DPO, SP investigation Sanobar Khan, former tehsil chairman Amir Ghani, as well as several Police and Army officials. A contingent of Police personnel presented a gun salute, and floral wreaths were laid on the coffin of the martyred policeman. The body was later sent to Dalan, the hometown of the deceased official, where his funeral was also offered by the family of the official as well as the people of the village.
